Patient Pattern, a dynamic and growth-mode healthcare information technology company, is looking for a Director of Software Engineering to join our team. You will manage teams of software developers, including internal and external senior level engineers and work closely with the company CTO and product management team. Experience in provider-facing healthcare information technology is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage team of software developers, including senior level, in a fast-paced start-up environment
  • Work closely with CTO and Product Management team to design, architect and maintain major customer features
  • Collaborate with Product Management on the analysis and definition of functional, non-functional, and business requirements for software development
  • Demonstrate strong cross-functional teamwork that consistently meets deadlines and delivers on customer expectations
  • Act as a strategist and champion for enterprise architecture and design principles
  • Ensure adherence to continuous improvement practices as required to meet quality and time to market imperatives
  • Report on the status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to ownership and your peers in the executive leadership team
  • Managing off-site contractors
  • Mentor development staff in the art of test-driven development
  • Development and deployment of new product features to facilitate rapid iteration and constant growth
  • Ensure that the team understands the “why” behind Patient Pattern’s plans, and are inspired to realize the company’s vision
  • Review new and existing systems design projects and procurement or outsourcing plans for compliance with standards and architectural plans
  • Provide effective employee performance management utilizing SMART goals, constructive feedback and coaching for improvement

 

Requirements:

  • BS degree in Computer Science or any other relevant field
  • A positive attitude with high energy and a service delivery mentality
  • Early-stage company experience where effective cross-functional execution is vital
  • Healthcare application development with HIPAA compliance
  • Demonstrated success in working well in a team and collaborative environment
  • Strong background in agile methodologies and ability to mentor others in their use
  • Strong familiarity with
  • Python, PostgreSQL, AWS, Kubernetes, Docker
  • Web development including SPA and PWA with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern JS frameworks
  • Data lake/warehouse and OLAP technologies
  • RESTful APIs and authentication methods (e.g., OAuth, SAML)
  • Application security best practices such as OWASP Top 10
  • SOC 2 and/or HITRUST certification standards
  • 5+ years of prior hands-on experience developing scalable healthcare web applications, using architectural standards, across a full stack, including client/server interaction, databases, and CI/CD infrastructure
  • 4+ years of direct software engineering management experience – multiple teams and/or locations
  • Deep understanding of modern deployment and development infrastructure: CI/CD, unit and end-to-end testing, and cloud/enterprise deployment
  • Strong communication skills to delivery highly relevant and effective information executives, and employees
  • Proactive mindset to drive change, question assumptions and push for innovation solutions
  • Ensuring teams have clear priorities and adequate resources, empowering engineers to self-organize and make informed decisions
